We Made It!

I can't believe it's almost the end of April and the very last exam of our Masters Program is on Tuesday. This year has truly flown by and I'm so thankful for all the experiences I've had both in the program and with all the wonderful friends I have made. I'm thrilled that I got to spend one more year in New Orleans, and will be sad to leave after the program. However, I truly believe that the program has really helped us all prepare for the next chapters of our professional careers!

With the program winding down, so is my time volunteering with the Children's Hospital. I've really enjoyed getting to know all the nurses and doctors and staff, and I've enjoyed even more being able to interact with patients every weekend. I hope to continue volunteering at my local hospital back home while I apply for medical school as well to continue to build on my experiences as well!

Can't believe the program is going to be over in a few weeks! It's unbelievable how fast this program has come to a close! The shelf exam is finally over and now it's time to focus on med school apps and the MCAT!

Volunteering at Children's Hospital has been great, over the year I've gotten more experience with working with staff and interacting with children. Interacting with the patients has been a really rewarding experience and I'm so happy that I was able to work for such an amazing organization! As the weeks go on, I've been able to do more for the physicians and nurses involving everything from taking patients details to answering the phone to discharging patients. I can only hope that my time as a volunteer will only equip me more with the tools to be a doctor!

Aside from volunteering, it's been really enjoyable to spend time with people in the program! We had a BMS crawfish boil and was able to bond with my friends in the program! Moreover I was able to get to know professors on a deeper level beyond the program!

I'm really going to miss the program once it's over! But I'm so thankful for the friends I've made through the program!

The Home Stretch!

It's crazy that yet another month has already gone by! I feel like Mardi Gras was just yesterday (which by the way was even better with all my new friends who had their first Mardi Gras!) and it's March tomorrow - only two more months until the program over!

I've been really enjoying spending more time with friends in the program! This weekend we started an unofficial Poker Night that we're going to try and do once a month! Obviously super casual and most of us are just learning to play, but it's another way for all of us to bond and hang out!

Pharmacology wise, our step exam is literally 3 weeks away, which is kind of nerve racking - I mean knowing all the drugs from the entire year, that's so many drugs! But luckily the program has equipped us with the knowledge to succeed.

Other than that, volunteering has been going well! The more I volunteer at the hospital, the more I'm able to interact with the patients which is always a rewarding experience. This past weekend, I met a lovely little boy who was finally getting discharged from Children's Hospital after nearly 6 months of in and out care. It was wonderful to be able to see him progress since I've been volunteering there, and we were all so happy to send him off.

'Tis the Season

It's fantastic to be back in NOLA for the home stretch! I still can't believe it's already been an entire semester, how is the program already halfway over? Even though January is over now, we've already had a month of class and completed a block exam! And now on top of the regular coursework, we're all starting to prepared for the USLME Steps that we'll specifically be taking in Pharmacology come March! I've also continued volunteering at the Children's Hospital which is continuing to be a rewarding experience.

However, the most exciting thing about this semester thus far has been my time with my fellow pharmacology phamily. While last semester I spent getting settled into the program, I've been able to spend much more time with my friends this semester! We've been exploring the city and going out a lot more now, we've even started a Friday post-seminar happy hour weekly date at Borgne, one of our favorite restaurants right by the med school!

On top of all of this, Mardi Gras is extra early this season (Feb 17th) and I'm so excited to show all my friends in the program what Mardi Gras in New Orleans is like! After all, being a Mardi Gras veteran (this will be my 5th year), I can impart all my wisdom (from experience of course) of the do's and don'ts of Mardi Gras!

Total Volunteer Hours: 10
Countdown to Mardi Gras: 15 days!
